World Lung Day 2026 - A Lifetime of Lung Health
World Lung Day is a global initiative established by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS). The day is dedicated to raising awareness of lung health and reducing the burden of respiratory diseases worldwide.
This year's theme, "A Lifetime of Lung Health", recognises that lung health is built and maintained throughout life. From before birth, through childhood and adulthood, and into older age, every stage of life presents opportunities to protect our lungs and reduce the risk of respiratory disease.
This year, the focus is on four key areas:
• Supporting healthy lung development – giving every child the best possible start in life.
• Supporting healthy lung growth – helping children and young people reach their full lung health potential.
• Maintaining healthy lungs – encouraging prevention, early intervention, and healthier environments throughout adulthood.
• Promoting healthy lung ageing – supporting respiratory health, independence, and quality of life as people grow older.
How can you help?
FIRS is encouraging organisations and individuals around the world to showcase the work they are already doing to improve lung health. Whether through research, healthcare, education, advocacy, policy development, or community initiatives, every action contributes to healthier lungs and stronger communities.
