ARNS Conference 2020 Round-up

ARNS were proud to deliver a virtual conference on Friday 14th August 2020, and was delighted that more than 120 respiratory nurse specialists attended.

The full educational day started with an overview of the “Year of the nurse 2020, and what is the new normal for respiratory nurses” by Alison Armstrong, Nurse Consultant in Newcastle upon Tyne.  The programme included presentation and discussion around new ways of working including group consultantion; virtual pulmonary rehabilitation; the future of pulse oximetry.   Nicola Roberts presented the results of a survey undertaken of respiratory nurses working as frontline staff during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Attendees had the opportunity to split into discussion groups to exchange the learnings from the COVID-19 experience, and how services are being resumed.

Additionally, a workshop on current and hot topics in NIV and CPAP application in practice was received; and a guide to success writing for publication was delivered by the Associate Publication of BMJ Journals.

A big thank you to our sponsors, Boehringer-Ingelheim, Chiesi Limited and Napp Pharmaceuticals, who also held symposia. ARNS would like to acknowledge and thank those companies who attendees, as without their support, these events would not be able to take place.

The patient perspective given by Carol Liddle gave a touching insight into how patients are really coping during the pandemic. The day came to a close with a special message by Ruth May the Chief Nursing Officer for England.

All recorded sessions will be uploaded onto the members area of the ARNS website. If you are not a member, please click HERE to join.

Finally, ARNS Executive board would like to thank every single delegate, sponsors, speaker and chair that participated in this years’ conference, it was the first virtual conference ARNS has ever held, and it turned out to be a recorded breaking one!
