Qicn - The use of Ambient Voice Technology in Community Nursing

Please see the below updated from the Queen's Institute of Community Nursing, which may be of interest to ARNS members.

We are delighted to be partnering with Accurx to deliver a free online training programme exploring the use of Ambient Voice Technology in Community Nursing.

This three-part online series brings together senior nursing and digital leaders to explore the real-world use of AVT across clinical settings. From practical implementation and frontline adoption to navigating risk, regulation and data protection, the programme offers clear, grounded insight for those leading change.

Join us to explore how AVT can be embedded safely, credibly and sustainably within nursing practice.

We suggest you attend all 3 sessions. Sessions will be recorded for those who are unable to attend all dates. Please note you will need to register for each session you wish to attend individually.

Who is it for?

This programme is open to nurses of all grades across all care settings (Acute, Community, Mental Health, GP Nursing), with particular value for:

What to Expect From the Training Programme

Ambient Voice Technology (AVT) is rapidly moving into everyday care, raising important questions for community nursing leaders about safety, governance and professional practice. How can AVT be introduced in ways that genuinely support community nurses, protect standards, and maintain trust?

Session 1: Ambient Voice Technology in Nursing: From First Use to Safe, Everyday Practice

Date: Wednesday 22nd April

Time: 12-1pm

Chaired by Dee Thiruchelvam, Nursing Director, The QICN

Speakers:

Rob Cann, Principal Clinician, Accurx

Amanda Jackson, Associate Chief Clinical Information Officer (ACCIO), Digital Transformation Team from Leeds Community NHS Trust

Summary: Ambient Voice Technology (AVT) is moving into everyday care across all settings capturing conversations and turning them into clinical documentation. The opportunity is clear: less time on admin, more time with patients. But for nursing leaders, the defining question is how to introduce it safely.

This session sets the context for AVT in nursing, before focusing on what safe, credible adoption looks like in practice  - from governance and consent to documentation accuracy and data protection, grounded in the experience of teams already using it.

Session 2: Leading the Implementation of AVT: Practical Lessons From the Frontline

Date: Wednesday 6th May

Time: 12-1pm

Chaired by Dee Thiruchelvam, Nursing Director, The QICN

Speakers:

Jack Tabner, General Manager, Accurx

Antonia Frost, Chief Nursing Information Officer from Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust

Summary: AVT only works if it works for nurses using it. This session takes a practical look at embedding AVT safely and sustainably  - how to engage teams early, support behaviour change, align governance, and measure impact beyond efficiency alone. Lessons from organisations already scaling AVT, focused on what makes adoption stick in day-to-day practice.

Session 3: The Future of Nursing with AVT: What This Means for Care and Practice

Date: Wednesday 20th May

Time: 12-1pm

Chaired by Steph Lawrence MBE, Chief Executive, The QICN

Speakers:

Jack Tabner, General Manager, Accurx

Sophie Brooks, Chief Nursing Informatics Officer, Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust from Homerton

Summary: AVT is starting to shape how care is delivered  - but its impact goes beyond documentation and efficiency. This session takes a step back to reflect on what AVT means for nursing practice in reality: how it influences clinical judgement, patient relationships and the experience of care. Hear from nursing leaders on how to use AVT well, while keeping care safe and patient-centred.
