Chair of ARNS receives Queens Nurse Award
Matthew Hodson, Chair of ARNS and Respiratory Nurse Consultant was made a Queens Nurse last night at prestigious event held in Central London attended by the Chief Nurse Viv Bennett of Public Health England.
The Queens Nurse Institute (QNI) highlight that a ‘Queen’s Nurse is someone who is committed to high standards of practice and patient-centred care. The QNI supports innovation and best practice, in order to improve care for patients. We believe that one way to do this is to bring together community nurses who share common values with a shared title. The title is available to individual nurses who have demonstrated a high level of commitment to patient care and nursing practice’
Matthew who currently works at the Homerton University Hospital London, works within an integrated respiratory service called ACERS for people living with COPD and other respiratory conditions, and was the Community COPD lead within Westminster PCT prior to taking up his position at the Homerton.
Matthew said ‘It’s a huge honour to be recognised by the QNI and awarded the Queen’s Nurse Title. One of the most rewarding parts of my role has been the fact that we are able to support many people to live within their homes and manage acute exacerbations of COPD at home, we used to call this ‘hospital admission avoidance’ but I see care shifting to providing community care for people in the most appropriate setting and for many patients, the home is the best place to recover with the right support. I thank the QNI for this honour and also recognise that nothing happens in isolation and share this honour with my team’

Huge congratulations to Matt from the ARNS Executive Committee on receiving this much deserved award.
