Wendy Preston, Vice Chair of ARNS, and a Nurse Consultant at George Eliot Hospital and Dr Carol Kelly, Senior Lecturer at Edge Hill University have edited a book on Respiratory Nursing at a Glance as part of Wiley Blackwell’s popular ‘at a glance’ series in collaboration with ARNS.

Respiratory nurses deal with conditions such as bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma, emphysema, and lung cancer; they work with patients of all ages.

The 150-page guide ‘Respiratory Nursing at a Glance’ is aimed at nurses, healthcare students and health professionals at all levels. The new guide covers a wide range of topics including assessment and diagnosis, medication, management of care, and common respiratory diseases.

Wendy said: “It was a great experience to be part of this new book and we hope it will help professionals across the country provide better care for respiratory patients. We deliberately took a highly visual approach so that people can quickly read up on key information and grasp the essentials of respiratory care.”

Carol said “Over fifty expert nurses and health professionals have contributed to this book from a wide range of backgrounds. It has been an excellent opportunity to pull together a concise summary of the wide spectrum respiratory nursing to provide this easy to read resource”.

Professor Ian Peate OBE said ‘The content is comprehensive, engaging and much needed. The focus on the patient is evident throughout. I am absolutely convinced the publication of this text will have an impact on the quality of care provided to those (and their families) who require respiratory care.’

The book was published in collaboration with the Association of Respiratory Nurses and officially launched at Reception hosted by members of the ARNS Executive Committee at the RCN London, on 26th September.  Nursing colleagues
