Managing Malnutrition in COPD – Train the Trainer Programme

Nutricia Advanced Medical Nutrition is running four  workshops as part of its Train the Trainer Programme. The workshops will be facilitated by Bev Bostock-Cox, Nurse practition, Gloucestershire and Jane Scullion, Consultant Respiratory Nurse, Glenfield Hospital, Leicester.

This workshop is designed to support you to develop the knowledge and skills to delivery training modules to your peers on how to recognise, assess and manage malnutrition in COPD Patients.

This workshop will provide you with background information to support your delivery of the Modules by providing an opportunity to:

  • Explore the causes and consequences of cachexia in COPD
  • Review MUST and the importance of weight loss in COPD
  • Introduce the Managing malnutrition in COPD pathway and demonstrate how it can support clinical practice
  • Review the evidence for using Oral Nutritional Supplements (ONS) in COPD and the benefits to patients
  • Enhance presentation skills and confidence

Following the success of the 1st Nurse Expert meeting in Nutrition and COPD in 2017, Nutricia ADvanced Medical Nutrition has the pleasure of inviting you to attend this year’s event.

The aim of this meeting is:

  • To explore the causes and consequences of sarcopenia and cachexia in COPD
  • The relationship between unexpected weight loss and morbidity.mortality
  • Review the scientific evidence supporting the use of Nutritional supplements in line with NICE guidance and GOLD 2018
  • Demonstrate how the “Managing Malnutrition in COPD” pathway (2016) has been embedded into standard routine assessment of patients
  • Provide you with the knowledge to confidently use ONS when appropriate to support your COPD patients.

The day is being chaired by Sam Prigmore, Consultant Respiratory Nurse Specialists at St George’s in London and a member of ARNS, PCRS and Education for Health.
